About
Marianne Knipe is passionate about the medium of pastel and she shares that passion with an international audience. She is the recipient of numerous awards and residencies in Europe, Haiti, and in the United States and has had several solo shows both here and abroad. Knipe was awarded Distinguished Pastelist Status by PSNJ in 2021. She also became a signature member of AAPL in 2021. She has been invited to Bos' Art en Baz' Art, Bellrive, France, a residency for artists, for a second time. She works in her studio in Allentown, Pennsylvania as well as on location. Each painting speaks for itself and has a life of its own. Marianne strives for a universal sense of harmony in her paintings with a balance of light and color.
“The desire to paint has become a persistent force in my life. It has taken me in new directions and has allowed me to communicate a sense of mystery in my paintings through the use of color and light. My aim is not to reproduce a scene, but to express the emotion that the subject evokes. Nature is the catalyst-human or otherwise- for my work. I am interested in the essence of a landscape or portrait-the inner life and my encounter with it. The medium of soft pastel allows a sense of immediacy and luminosity in the painting process. It allows my hand to be in the work.”
Marianne Knipe is a signature member of the New Jersey Pastel Society, a signature member of the American Artists Professional League and Pastel Society of America. Her work is in collections in the United States, Europe and the Caribbean.
